How did you get the idea to build your wooden house?

Eric We live in a border region that has a strong culture of wood construction and benefiting from the influence of labels green building (Passiv Haus in Germany, Minergie / Eco Effinergie for Switzerland and in France). The idea is to reduce energy costs of our house and its environmental footprint in terms of materials.

For what constructive technique did you decide, what were the stages of construction (foundation, construction …), difficulties?

Eric For foundations we dug a cave on a concrete screed. Then we opted for the solution prefabricated wood-frame on measure. It was not easy to achieve as companies prefer to work on standard models. The chosen solution includes the walls with insulation, joinery (windows and blinds), wiring ducts. The difficulties were more related to the distance with the business.

What are the architectural features of your home?

Eric Given the harsh climate of the area (very cold winter, hot summer), we particularly noted the prevailing winds. To provide for back wall that protect us from cold and optimize sunlight in winter. A eave 1.20 meters reduces the heat in summer and protects the wooden facades of the weather. Finally we have a wall thickness of 35 cm including 28 cm of insulation with 10 cm external insulation (wood fiber).

The temperature of the walls remains inside the housing, providing increased comfort compared to a conventional home.
