It was and is a style that is not afraid to make bold statements and appear monumental. Its style is very distinctive and recognisable. Most people will have come in contact with the decorating style from cinema and movies from and about that exiting period of time.

It used expensive materials such as gold, marble and brass to show off the wealth and pride of a new strong America. Furthermore Art Deco has inspired many later designers, so there is ample opportunity to find newer furniture designs which will fit in well with the style, without costing you as much as antiques.

The goal to aim for is, that stylish, sleek 1930’s Hollywood ambiance, have a look at some films from that time for inspiration or newer re-enactments. Don’t be afraid to borrow from other ancient periods, such as Egyptian icons and statuettes. In fact these were very popular in the time.

The main colour palette used can either be the black, velvet, red and gold New York style, or the lighter and more upbeat Miami style with pastel colours.
